Yesterday was pitching day for the ENO project. I think it went quite well, a little shaky voice in the beginning, but so much better compared to the rehearsal a week ago!
I had my new images that I myself felt was a good portrait of my idea. Still I had trouble with the story, what to include, what to leave out. But it seemed like that was a common problem for all of us who had chosen Jenufa, so I think it worked out fairly okay. It’s just hard to tell that story without confusing people!
I have to say that I was so impressed with everyone’d work! It was so good, so creative and no one’s idea was the same. I talked to some of the first years afterwards who where impressed with the variety, but also wondered what our brief had been when we all differed so much in our way of telling the three stories. I think the fact that we where able to do just about what ever we wanted as long as it had an connection to the opera was great. It really opened up for people to tell the stories in a way that worked best for them.
And I’m also intrigued to see who’s ideas are picked. To me it’s a complete wild guess cause everyone was so distinct and the fact that no one had the same idea makes it quite open.
